On the 16th of January 1919, the National Prohibition Act (or Volstead Act) was passed prohibiting the manufacture or sale of alcohol anywhere in the USA. Lots of stores and vendors closed down when the new law was passed, but others like Stan and Dell Ivor’s General Store in Chicago continued to sell under the counter. In an effort to crack down on lawbreakers, Stan and Dell were targeted in a police raid, the shop was boarded up and the brothers were each given 5 years in the slammer. The Store was taken over by the Northside gang and became the first blind pig in Chicago. By 1931 Chicago had a well-established black market for all sorts of contraband. Bootleggers and Rum Runners worked with local mobsters to distribute illicit alcohol through a network of secret warehouses, blind pigs, and speakeasies. They mostly dealt in ‘Bathtub Gin’ and ‘Homemade Hooch’, occasionally, a special shipment would come in, and these were usually reserved for the city’s ‘Made men’. Rumour has it that one such shipment was stolen from right under Capone’s nose, and is being stored in ‘The Old Blind Pig’. Capone’s lackeys have been more than clear: Go get his booze back and FAST! You only have an hour before The Old Blind Pig opens for business. The Northside gang are dangerous and you’re not the only one looking for the shipment, so don't get caught, and don't do anything stupid!
