“Some really imaginative puzzles in this space! This room hits a nice balance - if you're a family or new to escape rooms, this room is not too challenging. However, if you're a puzzle person, the bonus puzzles were especially tricky (even for me). Really clever room, and great set-dressing, too.”

“From what I can tell so far, Escape Room Herndon does a great job of starting each room on a strong foot to impress and immerse you. I enjoyed the cumulative storyline, magical theme, and puzzle diversity. There were several that stumped us in a very fair way. Absolutely recommend the room!”

“From the very moment I stepped into the room, I felt like I was in that era! I didn't know all the cultural references but there were enough that I was grinning with glee as I solved puzzles related to them. This room was just. plain. fun. While many puzzles were lock and key, there was also a particularly innovative puzzle type that wowed me. It was a bit short, but it was well worth it!”

“Very fun room with a great atmosphere. Immersive and challenging. The price here is pretty exorbitant so that’s the only thing making me question returning. I’ve done a lot of escape rooms and this is definitely at the high-end for price.”

“So much fun!!! I did it with one other people and would recommend more because there is a lot to do but still possible with only 2. There were so many impressive elements and creative puzzles. Also, Callahan was an AMAZING game master!!!”

“A fun room! My group of three escaped JUST in the nick of time. Only a few lock-and-key puzzles, mostly some pretty clever immersive ones. Somewhat linear overall -- a larger group might feel crowded.”

“One of my favorite escape rooms! The room was so well decorated and the puzzles ranged from locks to hidden compartments! Staff was extremely kind and answered all our questions and took several photos for us! Next time we take a trip to D.C. we will definitely be returning!”

“This was my first submarine themed escape room, and 2nd room for Escape Games. I was pleased to try a different theme, but as one friend pointed out, "space and submarines are basically the same, open the door and you die." That said, the aesthetics were great, puzzles and flow were solid, props looked sharp, everything worked well. The staff was excellent, very friendly and engaging. Our game master was Hyde, but we also interacted with two front desk people who were also lovely. My main complaints: there's unnecessary time sinks, they provide lore, but nothing useful for the game itself. I wish we knew that instead of being riveted by this component. It's also hard to move around the first room because its so small. The Escape Game also lets you take pictures inside the room, which was a blessing for solving some puzzles, especially when there's no notepad available. I'm also very impressed with how they offer 3d tours of the rooms on their website, that's very cool. Even though Escape Games is a big chain, it doesnt play or feel that way. We had a great time and I look forward to returning!”

“I found it amusing how the game master was so humble about his 'pretty alright' escape room and 'standard' safety video compared to how much fun I had. I have found that I am growing increasingly fond of the Western themed escape rooms lately and how immaculate the decor and music are and this was no exception. I feel like I ought to have dressed like a cowboy to complete the immersion. Each puzzle was intricate, well-executed, and even plot-relevant (although one near the end was really wordy and stumped us because we over thought it), the mechanism to deliver hints was delightful, and the storyline itself was intriguing. I can't wait to come back to see the next in the series!”

“I appreciated that there were multiple rooms, and each room featured puzzles that were mostly independent from each other, with a few instances of overlap/interactivity. Felt that the mechanics were pretty good!”

“Recommend this room. Great theming and some really rewarding puzzles. A couple were pretty challenging and we needed hints. Plenty to do for 4 people. Would love to go back and try some of their other rooms. Beautiful space and creative gameplay.”

“A well thought out and decorated room. We liked there was "connecting tissue" tying the solved puzzle code to which lock it goes to. Felt it was a fresh take on puzzles, not a recycle of puzzles we have seen in other rooms. Very immersive, felt like we were actually in the rooms they're designed after. Looking forward to coming back for another amazing experience!”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
