“Wow! What a whirlwind tour around the world! First things first, this isn’t a traditional room at all. It’s more of a points-based experience where you attempt as many puzzles as possible to get high scores. Each room represents a different country with its own set of themed cultural puzzles. You only have about 15 minutes in each room, and you only get points for puzzles you complete. Once time is up, you move on and cannot go back. If you can finish within “80 days,” (you shorten the number of days with riddles), you get a bunch of points, and you get more for doing other puzzles scattered about. The sets are huge and phenomenal! I loved exploring each locale! There are a variety of puzzles that play to different strengths so in this case, bigger is better. Our super small team of 2 managed to get a bunch of points on our trip around the world!”

“This room is a pure puzzle paradise! This is certainly not a typical escape room at all. It’s all puzzles, and mostly logic puzzles at that. If that’s not your strength or preference, this might not be your paradise. Many of the puzzles are self-contained and done on paper, with blocks, or a small device. As you complete puzzles, you get 4-digit codes that help you get clues as to which item you have to center in on before it disappears into the void that is known as The Mezzanine. You can get it right without solving every puzzle, but the more you solve, the better your chances at winning the game. I love that this room connects to the Mezzanine room at this location. In fact, it actually uses the same room, so there are limitations as to when this experience can actually be booked. If you love puzzles, especially logic and math, and don’t mind a lack of story, the nonlinear puzzle box paradise is fun and filled with dazzling effects. If there is a vacancy, puzzle fans should check in!”

“The Mezzanine is not your typical experience, much like the other escape rooms at this company. Instead of having to solve a series of puzzles to escape, the room basically throws everything and the kitchen sink at you in terms of puzzles. You don’t have to solve every puzzle. The room just kind of pushes you from room to room. The puzzles are great, though as I have realized from this location, skew towards logic and math. They’re some of my favorite kinds of puzzles, but if you weren’t good at those or just plain don’t like it, this isn’t for you. Also, some puzzles are insanely difficult. But of course, many of them are optional. Luckily, you kind of just get to choose your items and the game will lead the way for you. We literally got completely confused during one of the major rooms and ignored the main puzzle until the very end. Part of it was that we had no idea what was going on, but we were still able to finish. But that example is proof positive that you can bumble your way through the room and escape. There are even more bonus puzzles if that strikes your fancy, but you will have to be outside for those so plan accordingly for weather. This is a superb company to just bring a big group and puzz out! Just have fun and don’t get lost!”

“I really enjoyed this one. I thought a lot of the puzzles were fun to figure out and our group of four had plenty to do the entire time. We liked this room so much we did another one at this location immediately after.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
