“We had a blast (pun intended)! Dense puzzle flow with satisfying solves throughout. A bit chaotic at times if playing with a group who knows how to divide and conquer but there feels like there’s always something to work on which is a big plus. Abby was a wonderful GM and chatted with us at length after that game which I always appreciate! :)”

“I had an excellent time. Wonderful flow and signaling throughout. Aesthetic was good and spooky without being overly scary. A couple jump scares but no one in the room with you. While I don’t think this game had anything completely unique that I’d never seen, they executed everything very well and I had a great time.”

“We had a lovely experience in this room. Definitely an older game without a lot of flash or tech but the puzzles on display were solid and at the end of the day, that’s why I do escape rooms so I was happy. Abby was a delightful GM!”

“I think this was my favorite game at this location. A lot of fun and satisfying puzzles that my group really vibed with. Wonderful set! The preshow was ADORABLE! I just had a truly great experience with this one even if we blew through it fast than I would’ve normally liked.”

“Overall solid game. The set design was wonderful. Most of the puzzles felt satisfying. There was a few times the dim lighting posed an unnecessary challenge for us but we still escaped the room regardless. I could really nitpick if I had to but overall I’d definitely say this is one of the best games I’ve played in New Mexico!”

“Bust Out consistently does a good job with immersive sets and Area 53 is one of their best. There were a couple of interesting original features In this room I haven’t seen in the 400+ games I’ve played, including plenty of space-themed ones. You are in a station on the moon and your team of scientists has to figure out what went wrong with the genetic experiments before it’s too late. I don’t want to spoil the fun, but there are challenges to overcome and info to analyze. I liked the integration of both tactile and logic puzzles. We progressed through the room in a somewhat linear fashion as the story moved us along, which in this room worked really well. I recommend playing this game as well as Jumanji and Doomsday Bunker at Bust Out.”

“Perfect ambiance. Definitely a Hollywood scale production value. Not typically into scary themes but this game did a good job of being spooky and never terrifying, at least for me. It also had a few satisfying puzzles that tied into the story thematically which I always enjoy. We honestly had a great experience and there isn’t really anything negative I can say about it.”

“I personally loved this game. I’m typically a very puzzle focused player and my one critique of this game was that there wasn’t a ton of puzzles (I think maybe 10ish in total?) but where this game shines is that all of the puzzles that were there were solid and satisfying. This game also had one of my favorite props I’ve seen in a while and not only did it surprise it once, it surprised us twice! Great use of space and great theming. I was incredibly into this game from start to finish.”

“It’s not often I encounter a room with a somewhat silly vibe that has stellar puzzles quite like this room! I loved every single solve. The storyline flowed seamlessly throughout the each puzzle and there were absolutely zero lulls in action. This room matched our groups puzzle aesthetic really well and because of that we got out in under 30, and even then it didn’t feel like we got out early. I would play this game over and over if i could.”

“The room atmosphere was good, the puzzles were in line with the theme. The tech involved did not seem out of place with the era of a Wild West saloon. Room was fun to do without being excessively difficult.”

“Very impressed by this game. Not usually into scary/spooky games but I think that the scares really added to the ambiance. The set was fantastic. The puzzles were all satisfying and had a huge standout puzzle to me that I was very impressed with. Amazing experience. Also our GM Mariah was AMAZING.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
