“Fun room. Not a typical escape room. There are no number locks and only one key lock if I remember right. You have to figure out spell names and wand combinations to advance. Definitely a unique experience.”

“This is marked as spooky, but the only scary thing about it is the number of OSHA violations (in the fictional hospital not the real escape room). I didn’t think I’d love this room because of the theme, but I really did. The puzzles are fun, especially for people who are more logical minded. This room has the coolest set design element I’ve ever seen and it’s worth it just for that.”

“We had a great time in this room! A few of the puzzles were different than what I’ve seen before or more interesting versions of puzzles I’ve seen before. I appreciated the creativity of a few of them and the story for the room was unique and more interesting than usual. All around it was great, but my only disappointment was that we got out with 22+ minutes left on the clock. I always appreciate when a room is able to add more puzzles or difficulty for groups who are getting through super quickly, so you can spend more time in there and get your money’s worth. But other than that, it was great!”

“Sooo fun and spooky! Loved the creepy atmosphere, and the set design was incredibly impressive. The puzzles were very well intigrated into the atmosphere and storyline. If you love spooky vibes, haunts, and the metaphysical, you will love this room!!”

“This room is a must-do in the Twin Cities area—and preferably the first room you do at The Lodge at Lazarus Crowe story-wise bc it’s a good intro to the founding. The entire experience was great from start to finish, but how you gain access into the room is a truly unique and fun part of the experience. We loved the variety of puzzles in this room and just overall how much of the space we got to interact with. We also enjoyed the need for teamwork! We did this room as 2 enthusiasts and got done in a little under 60 mins for this 75-min experience. Pro Tip: If there’s down time between escape rooms, you can hang out in their bar/cafe and grab drinks (they have good mocktail and non-alcoholic drink options!) and play board games you can check out for free.”

“This room was really unique in both story and how you are introduced to puzzles. It had some fun mechanisms to it and some puzzles we hadn’t seen before. It was a good challenge for 4 experienced enthusiasts. I would recommend you take yourself in without delay for your happiness recalibration with the Ministry of Public Harmony!”

“I loved this room a lot more than I expected to! The teamwork especially at the beginning was so strong. Atmosphere was extremely immersive. And the room had so many fun surprises in it. I wish the puzzle design had been a bit more creative--too many number/letter locks which is always a pet peeve of mine. And while I truly did love this room and had tons of fun in it, prison themed escape rooms just give me the ick to a certain degree.”

“I really enjoyed this room. There were screens with effects that really helped make it feel like you were in a sub descending underwater. We found the puzzles very easy as a group of very experienced escape room players. I wouldn’t recommend this room for more than 4, especially if you have escape room experience. But it was very fun and the ending is one of my favorite things I’ve seen in an escape room.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
